Honors Convocation
Friday, April 17, 2009 @ 7:00 pm, University Gym
The central purpose of this occasion is to honor outstanding student achievement. It also serves as a public demonstration of the commitment of the faculty of this university to academic excellence. Those honored will include students who are candidates for graduation with honors or honors in the major, as well as members of honor societies, recipients of scholarships, and the Alumni Association Outstanding Students.
Students and faculty please plan to gather no later than 6:30 p.m. that evening in the dance studio of the gymnasium, on the north side of the building. (Students your guests should proceed to the main entrance, on the east side of the gymnasium, and be seated.) For your safety, we ask that you and your guests wear flat-soled shoes, not spiked or high heels, because the gym floor will have a tarp covering and seating for your guests is in the bleachers which can be slippery.
When you enter the dance studio, you will be directed to the appropriate location by one of the white robed marshals. If you are graduating Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude, you will line up by the signs that identify these categories; all other students will line up together. Once everyone is arranged, marshals will conduct the students to their seats in the gymnasium. You will be able to rejoin your guests at the reception in the south end of the gym following the Convocation.
Free parking will be available in parking lot 4. Dress for the evening is business attire for students and academic regalia for faculty.
The 2009 Keynote Speaker for Honors Convocation will be Patrick H. West.
