University Partnership with
PICTURE Cultural Art

PICTURE Cultural Art MuseumThe PICTURE Cultural Art space on campus provides students, faculty and the community with a rich multicultural experience through the arts, and the beautiful gallery is available for classes, seminars and daily viewing. The establishment of the PICTURE Cultural Art space is the result of a unique public/private partnership between CSU Dominguez Hills and the PICTURE Art Foundation, using space in the new Library South wing that was allocated for cultural and artistic purposes to benefit the university and surrounding community.

Benefits for Students

Exhibitions at PICTURE Cultural Art illustrate how the different cultures of Southern California approach common themes in our lives as conveyed through their fine arts. The exhibition space offers these benefits to students:

  • The world class exhibits from around the world provide a vehicle for education and inspiration for art students, the campus and surrounding community.
  • The exhibits and content are designed to be integral to the university’s curriculum and programs.
  • University faculty are able to enhance their syllabus and coursework by collaborating with PICTURE Cultural Art staff to create and provide relevant educational programs and other cooperative activities for students in conjunction with exhibits.
  • PICTURE Cultural Art attracts renowned artists, scholars and guests with whom CSU Dominguez Hills students are able to interact and draw inspiration.
  • Students gain valuable arts experience by working in the space as student interns and student assistants.

Benefits for Campus Community

PICTURE Cultural Art's multicultural exhibitions support the university's role as an educational and cultural center where diversity in all its forms is explored, understood, and transformed into knowledge and practice that benefits the world. PICTURE Cultural Art benefits the campus community in these ways:

  • The partnership allows the university to have a high-caliber exhibition space on campus that is funded by private support at a time when the arts are difficult to fund.
  • The public profile of the campus is enhanced by the multicultural art exhibits and the draw of visitors who might not otherwise be exposed to the campus.
  • The PICTURE Cultural Art space is a beautiful venue that is available for university events and receptions.
  • The partnership offers opportunities for sponsorships and fundraising that benefit the university through exhibits and activities held in the PICTURE Cultural Art space on campus.
  • The PICTURE Art Foundation has donated a specially commissioned bronze sculpture, with an estimated value of $665,000 for the university’s permanent use and possession. The stunning, large-scale sculpture entitled “Where Cultures Meet” by Benjamin Victor stands on the slope outside the Library South wing.
  • All permanent and rotating artwork included in the exhibitions are made available to the university on loan. The PICTURE Art Foundation also provides additional sculptures, paintings, and other works of art on loan from time to time, for display in various locations on the university campus. The foundation provides all shipping, installation and insurance coverage for works of art used in the exhibitions and on loan to the university.
  • Committed to advancing and studying the cultures in Southern California, the PICTURE Cultural Art space works with the University Library to gather resources and archival materials to support research.
