Prospective students who are interested in applying to the University and declaring a major in Child Development:

1. To apply, please visit California State University’s CSU Mentor at http://www.csumentor.org/  in order to complete an online application.

The Toro Transfer Center provides assistance to prospective students who are interested in applying to the University and would like pre-admission assistance including preliminary evaluation of G.E. transfer course work.  The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to assist students on a walk-in basis or they may contact (877) U2-CSUDH or transfer@csudh.edu. The Toro Transfer Center is located in WH A240.

1. Transfer students who are interested in declaring Child Development as their major should visit www.assist.org to assess whether any Child Development courses taken at another college or university will articulate with core requirements.

Transfer Model Curriculum in Early Childhood Education
The Child Development Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) participates in the Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Program for Early Childhood Education. Students attending Community Colleges in California whose career objective is Early Childhood Education (ECE) may transfer the CAP 8 Core courses in ECE identified by the California Curriculum Alignment Project (CAP). The CAP 8 Core courses include:

1. CAP 1 – Child Growth and Development
2. CAP 2 – Child, Family and Community
3. CAP 3 – Introduction to Curriculum
4. CAP 4 – Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children
5. CAP 5 – Observation and Assessment
6. CAP 6 – Health, Safety, and Nutrition
7. CAP 7 – Teaching in a Diverse Society
8. CAP 8 – Practicum in Early Childhood Education

Students who complete the CAP 8 Core courses* at a Community College that has received CAP Approval may transfer these courses to meet the requirement of the Bachelor of Science in Child Development at CSUDH. Please visit the Child Development Training Consortium website for a list of Community Colleges who are CAP Approved, http://www.childdevelopment.org/cs/cdtc/print/htdocs/services_cap.htm. Please review the TMC Program Plan below for CAP equivalencies and prerequisites. Students should also check with the Toro Transfer Center to verify that the General Education courses they completed at the Community College are G.E. Certified.

* Courses MUST be CSU Transferable. Please check www.assist.org for updated information on CSU transferability. Please verify that the courses are both CAP Approved and CSU Transferable.
