Who is the program designed for?

  • The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Health Care Management Option is designed for those who wish to acquire and enhance their knowledge and skills to function as effective frontline or middle level supervisors in health care.

Will the program improve my skills and abilities to meet recognized standards?

  • School of Health’s Bachelor of Science Health Care Management Option program is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of health care personnel in the following key areas:
  • Attainment of an understanding of the organizational structure of the health care system, including financing of health care services.
  • Examination of health policy at the local, state and federal levels and its implication on the delivery of care.
  • Examination of theories for effective health care delivery and management.
  • Enhancement of interpersonal skills and perspectives to effectively manage in a diverse ethnically, economically and culturally environment.
  • Enrichment of intellectual, conceptual, integrative and quantitative abilities.
  • Enhancement of communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Strengthening of behavioral and social attributes, emphasizing ethical standards of integrity, compassion, and concern for others. 

Are students required to complete a minor in another field?

  • Yes. Students completing the BS in Health Science with the Health Care Management option will need to complete a minor in another field. The minor should be selected in consultation with an advisor with the goal of contributing to one’s career objectives and personal growth.

What are the recommended minors for Health Science Majors?

  • Biology, business administration, economics, psychology, public administration and sociology are some of the recommended minors.

When are courses offered?

  • Courses are offered year-round at CSUDH.

How long does it take to complete the program?

  • The program is flexible and designed for working professionals, so students can enroll in as few or as many classes as available.

Is financial aid available through the University?

    • Yes.  There are many scholarships available for qualified students.

    What are the career opportunities?

    • Graduates may pursue careers in hospitals, medical groups, managed care organizations, insurance and a variety of health care organizations.
