BIO
Dr. Hwang became an occupational therapist in 1994. Over the years, he has worked in a wide range of settings including pediatrics, mental health, neurological rehab, and education. Recently, his clinical practice has focused on services to older adults in community settings. Dr. Hwang’s teaching interest includes OT theories, clinical assessments and research methodology and his current research focuses on population health promotion and lifestyle measurement. His newly developed instruments, the Health Enhancement Lifestyle Profile (HELP) and the Health Enhancement Lifestyle Profile-Screener (HELP-Screener), have been considered valuable clinical tools for use in the geriatric occupational therapy practice wherein assessing diverse lifestyle behaviors and implementing possible health-promoting strategies among older adults is viewed as an essential role of occupational therapists. A series of studies have been conducted to support psychometric properties and clinical utility of both HELP and HELP-Screener which can be found in AJOT, OTJR, and Physical & Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics.
