Master of Social Work
The pursuit of a more just society through education, scholarship, research, and community service that addresses societal dynamics stemming from the intersection of ethnic experience, culture, socio-economic status, gender, and membership in categories historically subjected to oppression, discrimination, and indifference. Dedicated to a diverse and complex urban setting in which no single group is the majority, the program prepares Master level social workers for social work practice in communities promoting social, economic, and environmental justice, and the preservation and enhancement of the well-being of individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
The MSW program has been granted final approval from the CSU Chancellor's Office and Board of Trustees. Accreditation Candidacy, the first level of accreditation, was granted by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), February, 2007. Students enrolled while the program is in candidacy are accorded all the rights and privileges of an accredited degree upon completion of graduation requirements and the program’s reaching full accreditation status.
