SOE Conceptual Framework Theme: "The Reflective Urban Professional"
The SOE’s conceptual framework below provides the context for developing and assessing candidates' knowledge, skills, and dispositions based on professional, state, and institutional standards. The knowledge base, vision, mission, philosophy and goals/objectives inform the shared vision of the college and its programs. This conceptual framework provides the foundation for the following critical features across the COE curriculum: 1. Learning occurs when learners actively engage with others in social contexts and actively construct their understanding. 2. Teachers are continual learners reflecting on their practice with other professionals and learners. 3. Equity and excellence are essential values for urban educators. 4. Commitment to collaborate with all stakeholders in our community of educators. The theme, Reflective Urban Professional, distinguishes our graduates from other programs. Reflective practice by our urban professionals emphasizes four elements: a synthesis of urban and diverse perspectives, curricula that are grounded in research and performance-based assessment, integration of ongoing technology developments, and sensitivity to the unique characteristics of each preparation program.
