Evaluation Center

The SOE Evaluation Center (EC) coordinates all of the assessment and evaluation tasks for the unit, divisions, programs, and special projects. There are five distinct yet mutually encompassing areas that fall under the umbrella of the Center:

ArrowAssessment Instruments & Rubrics

ArrowData Collection, Analysis, and Interpretation

ArrowEvaluation and Assessment Reports

ArrowInformation Management System

ArrowAccreditation Data (NCATE/CCTC/WASC)

Evaluation processes for The School of Education are far-reaching, complex, and intensive. The SOE Evaluation Committee developed a comprehensive evaluation system designed to insure the most efficient use of time and resources to maximize program effectiveness. All evaluation processes adhere to the SOE Mission and are aligned with and/or address NCATE, CCTC, and WASC standards.

General Operating Tasks

Maintaining a strong evaluation system requires on-going processes that support specific evaluation efforts such as:

ArrowDeveloping, distributing, and maintaining forms, logs, surveys, and matrices

ArrowMaintaining files and correspondence

ArrowCoordinating training sessions for faculty and staff

ArrowAssisting faculty with specific research items

Unit/Division/Program Review

Unit assessment activities engage faculty, staff, and students in a collaborative effort to examine and modify existing program elements for program improvement. The review processes include:

ArrowExamining current unit, division, and program assessment measures

ArrowImplementing multiple measures to assess the unit, departments, and programs

ArrowRecommending program improvements based on assessment results

Data Collection/Analysis/Reports

SOE captures data at the Unit, Division/Program, and Project levels via surveys, focus–groups, interviews, and other measures. Unit and Division/Program survey data is collected from graduates and their employers every 2 (alternating) years in the Spring Exit and/or Capstone data are collected either annually or at the end of each semester; all results are reported annually. Projects are assessed according to policies/guidelines. Specific survey tasks include:

ArrowCreating scannable forms of existing surveys

ArrowTracking the distribution, collection and scanning of surveys

ArrowTransforming scanned results into databases (Access, Excel, SPSS)

ArrowWriting SPSS syntax codes for Unit and TED surveys

ArrowAnalyzing data and writing reports for Unit and TED surveys

ArrowAnalyzing data from the CSU Chancellor’s System-wide survey and writing reports

ArrowCreation of reports for presentations (PowerPoint and hard copy).

Information Management System

Maintaining accurate databases is an on-going process and changes as survey and other assessment data change. Information in databases is typically used to support data analysis and to develop trend data. Specific database tasks include:

ArrowAccessing original Banner data; writing special report programs

ArrowMerging Banner and survey databases for various reports

ArrowAligning qualitative text and quantitative databases for various reports

ArrowMonitoring/maintaining all database activities

ArrowProviding summary reports utilizing database information

Coordination of NCATE/CCTC/WASC Activities in Relation to SOE

Arrow NCATE/CCTC accreditation visits

ArrowUnit/Division/Program assessment plans

ArrowProgram Self-Study Matrices

ArrowCapstone/exit assessment instruments

ArrowTraining workshops
