Integrated Undergraduate Liberal Studies
Degree and Teaching Credential

The Integrated Option is an intensive,
fast-tracked program that allows you to
complete both your undergraduate degree
and the multiple subject teaching
credential concurrently. If you transfer
from a community college with GE
certification, you may be able to
complete the Option in five additional
semesters. Freshmen may also
participate.
Teaching
Elementary School (Multiple Subject
Option)

To teach elementary school in
California, you must have the Multiple
Subject Teaching Credential. This
credential authorizes public school
teaching in self-contained classrooms,
such as grades K-6. This credential may
also be used to teach self contained
classes in preschool, grades 7-12, and
classes for adults. School districts may
also look for other related
qualifications and experience.
Teaching Secondary School (Single
Subject Option)

To teach middle or secondary school in California, you must have the Single Subject Teaching Credential. This credential authorizes public school teaching in specific subjects in a departmentalized classroom such as those in most middle schools or high schools. Teaching in these subjects may be authorized for preschool, kindergarten, grades 1-5, and classes organized primarily for adults. Specific Subject Credentials Offered at CSUDH: Art, Chemistry, General Science, English, Math, Music, Physical Education, Social Studies, and Spanish.
Teaching Special Education

To teach Special Education in
California, you must have the Education
Specialist Instruction Credential. It
authorizes the holder to teach in the
area of specialization listed on the
credential in the following settings:
special day classes, special schools,
home/hospital settings, correctional
facilities, nonpublic schools and
agencies, and resource rooms. School
districts may also look for other
related qualifications and experience.
Education Specialist Areas of
Specialization Offered at CSUDH:
Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M):
Includes specific learning disabilities,
mild to moderate mental retardation,
attention deficit and attention deficit
hyperactivity disorders, and serious
emotional disturbance; authorizes
serving individuals in kindergarten-
grade 12, and in classes organized
primarily for adults through age 21.
Moderate/Severe Disabilities (M/S):
Includes autism, deaf-blindness,
moderate to severe mental retardation,
multiple disabilities, and serious
emotional disturbance; authorizes
serving individuals in kindergarten-
grade 12, and in classes organized
primarily for adults through age 21.
Early Childhood Special Education - (ECSE):
Includes the mild/moderate and
moderate/severe disabilities listed
above and authorizes serving children
ages birth to pre-kindergarten only.
