This
year’s CUMU Conference promises to be an exciting and
rewarding experience for all of us who find our professional
calling in the nation’s metropolitan and urban educational
institutions. As President of California State University,
Dominguez Hills, I am delighted to have the opportunity to
host this conference and hope that you will be able to attend.
This year’s theme, “Urban and Metropolitan University
in Tomorrow’s Economy,” is one we will be forced
to address in our institutions. What better preparation could
we have than sharing with each other the things we’ve
learned over the past few years of economic challenge.
Of course hosting a meeting in the bustling
greater Los Angeles area means that this conference will also
afford you the opportunity to take advantage of our proximity
to the entertainment capital of the world and visit such places
as Universal City, the Getty Museum, or the Home Depot Center
sports complex on our campus, the training site for many of
our country’s Olympic athletes. Although we believe
you will enjoy visiting Southern California for its own sake
in October, when many parts of the country will already be
beginning to feel winter’s nip in the air, we also think
this conference has an exciting agenda, stimulating speakers,
and many opportunities to take advantage of each other’s
expertise and “best practices” on a variety of
topics.
When you have reviewed the preliminary program
brochure posted on the website, I am confident that you will
want to come to the CUMU Conference and Cal State University,
Dominguez Hills in October. If you have questions, please
contact the Office of Ceremonies and Events at (310) 243-2666
or email csudhevents@csudh.edu.
I look forward to seeing you in October!
Sincerely,
James E. Lyons, Sr.
President
