Students in Dr. Margaret Blue’s Political Science 101 honors class were treated to a talk on Nov. 18 by an official from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Dan Iannicola, Jr., Esq., deputy assistant secretary for Financial Education, travels the country at least twice a month talking to students from second grade to college, and young adults in the military about choices and consequences in how they manage their money. As a quote-unquote Washington insider, he often also provides his young audience with a look at the ins and outs of Washington D.C. politics.

Students involved in the School of Nursing’s Nursing Student Organization are learning about more than reading charts and dispensing medications. The group, comprised mainly of online students, enhance their class materials and work experience, by serving as student mentors and also being active in nursing advocacy. As an example, 8 NSO members attended RN Lobby Days in Sacramento last semester to witness the effects of policymaking on their profession.
