On Thursday, September 11, 2003, a student wrote:
THE ROLE OF AESTHETICS OF ANSWER ABILITY PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE GRADING POLICY.
This first sentence doesn't say anything. What role does aesthetics play? Why is it important? What does it mean for aesthetics to play a role in grading? And it's uncool to write "answerability" as two words when it must be sitting in front of you. Please don't use all caps. I can't transfer it to the site.

AESTHETICS OF ANSWER ABILITY IS A CREATIVE WAY OF TEACHING STUDENTS CLASS MATERIALS.

This sentence doesn't indicate any understanding of what that creative way of teaching consists of. Why is it creative? How does it work?

STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO COMPREHEND LEARNING MATERIALS IN A COMFORTABLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT BY USING THE DIALOG METHOD OF LEARNING.

Again, this doesn't really say anything. Aren't students supposed to comprehen learning materials anyway? What does comfortable mean? What is a dialog method of learning? That's a term we don't use by the way.

So when I get the end I don't have the slightest idea whether this student has the foggiest idea about what he/she is supposed to do in class, how he/she is supposed to let me know that he/she has done that and understands the material.

If you are in the same position as this student, I think you'd better start by answering my questions here. No, don't send them all to me. Talk to us, bring it up in class, read the weekly assignments. This submission would not receive a passing grade in this course.
