Front Porch Art Crawl

In the process of uploading material for our consideration as the election draws near, and for a continuation of our transformation of dominant discourse field work and gallery exhibition, I came across Harry Hoyte's new book on Everyday Politics: Reconnecting Citizens and Public Life (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2004). Unable to resist a little surfing, I found Front Porch Art Crawl. I would be so pleased if some of you would connect with them. Perhaps we could share models and efforts and bridge the gap between the academy and the community even more quickly and more effectively.

Unlike many other models I've come across, the Front Porch Art Crawl does not hold to the infrastructure we have and have always known, in that they don't seem to require that all participants come together in one place at one time. The whole neighborhood gets to play. That's an important innovative step. Another project on this site uses the Internet for community activism and governance issues, but it continues to teach classes, instead of re-interpreting the existing Internet potential to serve the needs of the non-Internet literate community. I think it places too much emphasis on learning the new technology, and too little on making the new technology work for us. I like that the Front Porch Art doesn't seem to do that.

No time right now. But I'll put up lots more on this soon. jeanne
