Subject: I AdmireHi Jeanne,
My name is Mercedes Mark and I'm in your Sociology of Law Class(367) on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:45pm. And i just wanted to let you know that I really admire the way you go about teaching, and I also admire your website page. I like the way you keep us updated on current and previous issues. And would like to know what do it take to receive an A in your class. So if you could write me back, answering my question I would really appreciate it. Thank You! jeanne's comments:Thank you, Mercedes.

Subject: Should I drop your class???????Jeanne, I have been attending the class discussions and by doing so I am learning an abundance of different and new perspectives on many different issues. However, I am feeling extremely behind because to put it simple I am. Today, when we were talking about how schools in the US education system are all about structure, for example, putting the desks a certain way, giving tests, and making undergraduates attend every semester in order for them to keep their status in school, these three examples of structural violence validates the way I am feeling about my actions in your class. In my other four classes that I am taking this semester, we walk in, sit down in the structural manner as always (boring), follow a syllabus, get the study guide which has all the questions to the test, and then we all memorize the answers to the exam. I feel having lived and learned in this kind of social structure has damage me. Yes, I follow instructions very well and I have a great memorizing skills but what am I learning about real issues in real life. For example, in your class, this is the first class where I have not had any forceful structure. I am able to come to class and relax, hear other people of many different backgrounds and ethnicities. This enables myself to open my mind to other perspectives instead of only thinking the way that I have been raised and taught to think. Expansion of the mind is so important, not only with textbook terms and information but also with the education of others cultures, beliefs, values, and opinions. What I trying to get at is that even though I am enjoying your class I am having a tough time responding via-email. My computer at home takes me about thirty minutes to geet online and then the computer decides on it own that it doesn’t want to play anymore and it will just freeze or give some lame message that I need to call my server for help. BS! Between that problem and trying to figure out what part of class or website to respond from, I am having a difficult time and need your opinion on where to go form here. I read that next week is the second evidience of learning check. During the first one I think that I got through a couple of responses but I never got a response back and I have yet to respond this second period. I didn’t feel like we were connecting because I never got a response back. Please email me when you aren’t so busy, well that won’t work haha email me as soon as you can. Do you think I am too behind with responding to continue the course? Thank you for your thoughts and understanding. Leslie
