Site has gallery view, paintings online, details of paintings online, and a good selection of readings. Explore it. I very much like this site because it gives you photos of the actual gallery scene, as well as photos of the paintings. Try doing a sociological analysis of the gallery scene. Notice that you can click on the third painting for seven details. You really do need the details in this case.
Link added in October 2000.- Bertoldt Brecht: On Art as a Commodity
Link first to life, then to readings, then to Bertoldt Brecht.
Link added in October 2000.- Interactive Project: Art as Communication Donna Woods' project on illuminated manuscripts. We spent all our time on our Day of the Dead project last semester, so we'll resume this one in Spring 2001. The illuminated manuscripts here show love and acceptance. Basquiat's work shows the complex responses of the child rejected for his difference.
- We Are Always More than Our Pain: Beyond Basquiat by bell hooks.
- bell hooks and the Politics of Literacy: A Conversation by Gary A. Olson. Covers Altars of Sacrifice: Remembering Basquiat.
