E-Mail

The worst possible conditions are defined as using one of the computer lab machines.

To send e-mail from a CSUDH lab, follow these basic instructions.

  1. Be sure you have a CSUDH e-mail address. You need a user ID and a password. You can get the user idea at the Computer Center, over in the small college area. When they give you the user ID, you can use that for your password the first time, then it will prompt you to give a password. Try not to forget it. Write it down somewhere where you can find it again.

  2. Once you have a valid user ID and password, you can use this e-mail system. (You can also use Pine, Eudora, or any other mail system to e-mail jeanne. This is just the simplest one. Attend a workshop to learn the more advanced systems. They provide "extras," like file folders to keep different types of messages in, address books with the addresses you like to mail to, etc.)

  3. Prepare your message before you try to e-mail. Here's how:

    1. Go to Netscape.

    2. Go to the Dear Habermas site. Type in one of our URLS in the browser locator window or link on one of the links below:

      http://www.habermas.org

      http://www.csudh.edu/dearhabermas

  4. Link on the Exercise you want to answer.

  5. Go to Start.

  6. Start Netscape (or browser of your choice) again.

  7. You will now have two buttons on your taskbar.

  8. In this new browser window, link to any material you need to help you construct your answers. (Like maybe the lecture notes.)

  9. Go to Start. Start the word processing program of your choice.

  10. In the word processor, cut and paste, and construct your answer.

  11. Go to Start. Start EWAN. Use your user ID and password to get into EWAN.

  12. At the $ prompt type Mail and Enter.

  13. At the Mail prompt type send/edit/cc

  14. At the To prompt type jcurran@csudh.edu

  15. At the cc prompt type your own user id

  16. Use the task bar button to move to the word processing program.

  17. Copy what you want in your e-mail.

  18. Use the e-mail button on taskbar to go back to ewan.

  19. Paste what you want to send.

    Press CTRL-Z to send.

  20. Voila!
