Who's More Structurally Violent?

We have just looked at the cat scan site that you referred us to yesterday.  The cats are really fun to look at, but at the same time we couldn't decide on who was being more structurally violent, the guy that created the site or the people that made all the rude comments.  If they had a problem with the site, they could have voiced their opinions another way.  Two wrongs don't make a right, and the people that used horrible profanities could have channeled their anger in another way. If this was really some type of debate, no one would take their side because their comments were a lot of pejorative words that didn't say anything.

Good point. When you want to win people over, you need to think about what they can agree with. If they had said, "we wish you wouldn't encourage putting a cat where very bright light could get into its eyes," we might have listened. We always need to consider the audience we want to reach.

The technical name for this is "attitude persuasion theory." The people writing the hate mail flunked. jeanne

I am writing a paper for my Eng 350 class on the internet and child porn. The question is should we ban porn and other indecent sites from the net? I thought about you when I was first presented with the topic because you are on the net a lot and maybe you had some insight on the subject. If you are not too busy can you e-mail your thoughts on the subject, I'm anxious to hear what you have to say. Thanks, Erika.

Then added later the same day:

I just read the Catscan site and this is just the stuff that I was talking about when the I said to ban indecent sites on the internet (refer to my previous e-mail about the paper I am writing). Those people are obviously bored and need to find more productive hobbies. Cliff is a loser. :)

Well, check out what the ACLU has to say about it. ACLU's Cyber-Liberties. Once you start banning you run into problems. Like the First Amendment. Cliff also put up the site, Voices from the Hellmouth. Would you want to ban that one? I'll get up a discussion. Nag me - I'm struggling with everything at once.
