On Tuesday, August 28, 2001, Berthena met with jeanne and Marlene to integrate the work they had done over the summer. We spoke of jeanne's contacts in South Africa and of Berthena's desire to bring activism into good faith. Marlene and Berthena will organize local community groups to exchange e-mail with two churches in Zambia, for whom Berthena will organize contributions from our local community.Marlene and jeanne will pull together the curriculum for campus and community workshops to talk about the problems of exploitation around the world and right here at home. Berthena's project is designed to teach us to understand each others "difference" as we seek to understand the plight of Others whose distance, in Africa, makes the pain of colonization easier for us to bear emotionally. The curriculum will rely on story-telling and consciousness raising discussions.
