This morning a question on consensus and compromise in Habermas came up on the Hab list (habermas@lists.village.virginia.edu). Someone asked where Habermas "distinguishes between consensus and compromise." A reply came from John Peterson:
"On compromise and consensus: start with the index to Between Facts and Norms, then see Tom McCarthy's contribution to Rosenfeld and Arato, eds., Habermas on Law and Democracy (esp. p. 129, n.44) and Habermas's reply to him."I plan to follow this up for us, but need to finish something else today. Meanwhile, since this would seem to tie directly into Fellman's concern for a paradigm shift from adversarialism to mutuality, I thought some of you might like to take a look on your own at these sections.
