There was a beautiful large version of Le Corbusier's painting (in black and white) on p. B 35 of the New York Times National Section on November 29, 2002. I'm sure the attraction was personal. I had not seen this Le Corbusier, or studied much of his water color. I was profoundly shocked by the loose rendering that captured the feel of the church and its neighborhood. That's the kind of feeling I've been trying to capture in our travels. Of course, the show was in New York, and we have only the newspaper reports, and the books we can gather to imagine it. But such imaginings lead us closer to other perspectives we might never have seen.

I really liked the simplicity of the painting, the willingness to capture just the feeling without specific detail. Read the article when you have time, and I'll get up an essay shortly. jeanne
