The Text, As It Develops

Jeanne,

Here are a few quotes from Lewis Gordon's book I found quite interesting.

Fisrt of all he states that racisim is a dirty business and unveils things about "ourselves" that we may prefer not to know. He goes on to state that "Race therorists theorize in a racist world. The degree to which that world is made evident will have an impact on the question of weather the theoristnot only sees, but also admits what has been seen. The same applies to the society in which the theorist theorizes."

Reading this makes me really wonder how we as a society will ever be able to completely eliminate racism, not only in our neighborhoods or country, but in the world.

I know the battle has to start somewhere, but after reading this book, I realize what a monumental task lies ahead. Hopefully pioneers and their work in laying the foundation such as, Martin L. Kings' "I have a Dream" speech will continue to be heard. Creating a snowball effect in anti-racisim theory.

Chat with you later on this.
