Dominant Discourse and the Imaginary: Sagwa's Porcupine EpisodeI had lunch today with Maureen Tam of the Admissions Office and just for a lark, I asked her if she had ever watched Sagwa. Now, she has no young children. I just asked her "out of left field" and much to my suprise, she had watched it once. Her sister is a retired school teacher and called her a couple of weeks ago and told her about Sagwa.
When we spoke today she said she wondered why her sister had called her and, after I told her what Sagwa did for adults and children alike with their stories and their insights into many cultures, she became very interested and stated she was going to tape the daytime programs to enable her to watch it more often. Thanks for posting it on the site. In yesterday's showing Sagwa's brother was telling Sagwa that she couldn't change the world and the next thing you see is Sagwa flying around the room (on the back of her friend the bat FuFu) shouting at the top of her lungs "Oh, yes I CAN change the world!
Good night,
