Hi Jeanne:

Why do you reckon this is such an important cause of tension? What is causing tension? Don't start out cold this way. jeanne

I believe that your interrelationship around cars and the fact that you had a non-driving daughter and mother in law was a source of tension because it caused a strain in the family. You bet. I think it does in most families. jeanne One thing that we will never have enough of is time. The sands in the hour glass are constantly in motion, and when you reconcile that against your own personal schedule versus that of two other people, conflict will arise because all of the people will not be happy all of the time. Lots of words without any link to our class discussions or readings. This is a long sentence but doesn't really say anything, Holman. Marx's Strain Theory states that capitalism is at the core of all of society's problem. Thus, causing deviance in the society that it exists in. I would like to point out that we haven't talked about Marx's strain theory in any of our classes. Good that you know it, but this needs to be reflective of what you have learned in our classes. jeanne The capitalistic acquisition of a car is the vehicle choice for transportation to mass commerce. C'mon, Holman, a car is essential in any metropolitan area for getting to school and to work, nevermind mass commerce. In a family in which acquisition is not evenly distributed or accessible, tension exists because of the strain that capitalism puts in the family. This Strain can be easily misinterpreted into someone that is denied access, thinking, I am not loved or looked over. Miscommunication on this is issue can cause a societal problem that exist in the family to rip away at the core. Let's go back to the days of love, comminication, family and neighborhood.

Holman, you write in standard academic style. Big words, references to theories, etc. But they bear no relationship to any of our classes. That's because you're a field mouse. You study a lot on your own and skip both classes and discussion with us in the office. That may be understandable if you follow the discussions on the site, but we haven't talked about capitalism as the cause of all evil. We also would never say anything so general and unspecified as "Let's go back to the days of love, comminication, family and neighborhood." We would ask how can understanding concepts like answerability, transparency, responsibility, structural violence help us in that goal.

Especially because you signed up to learn how to teach this stuff in a Practicum, I know I'm gonna see a lot of you real soon. Try reading the site first.

love and peace, jeanne
