Introduction to Fledgling Publications
Review and Teaching Essay by Jeanne Curran and Susan R. Takata
Copyright: Jeanne Curran and Susan R. Takata, June 2001. Fair use "encouraged."Every now and then, we are lucky enough to have students who love to write. We aren't a general forum for student writing. We gratefully leave that to the English departments. But we have found that poetry, stories, scripts for sociodramas, and brief essays add considerably to our classes. Our students' work is bound together through its themes: alterity, postcolonialism, social justice, respect for each other, and peace.
This will be a companion site to our Art Gallery. And we hope that all of you who wish to will have a chance to appear in Fledgling Publications. Bridget writes songs. Saundra and Tammy and Mac write poetry. So does Armand. Like most novice writers, they want to discuss and polish their work. They want readers.
Comment. Add your own perspective. Maybe even try your own hand at writing. Several students have agreed to help with the uploading this Fall. This might even be a good place to learn the editing tasks for Dear Habermas.
We have lots more to say about all this, especially as it relates to agency, and to providing equality of access to careers. But all that will have to wait till July. jeanne June 5, 2001.
