jeanne"Well, yes, but Fellman's approach is similar to that of postcolonialism, without the emphasis on empire. But Henry and Milovanovic seem to emphasize alterity also. And then Spivak seems to separate out racism and sexism from colonialism, except that . . . well, aren't they all structurally violent?"
Have you ever noticed that ideas just won't stay in a single course?
They keep spilling over into the whole apperceptive mass."Guelph Wisdom

You Gotta Read This!
lingling Ubuweb site. This section of the site is definitely dark humor, so don't take the children there. There's an occasional variation on the F word, but not a lot. Mostly it speaks of the life of the streets. Link to the found and insane dialog box by clicking on the little down arrow. Then click on one of the found visual poems, and, when it's highlighted, press Enter. DO NOT start this if you have homework! Discussion Question: What do these found poems tell us about the dominant discourse on the streets of New York City?
For partial restoration of your sanity, now's the time to read (re-read) Tim Wise's The Trouble with Tolerance

Political Podium by Edward Kent. Review of Habermas': Between Facts and Norms: Contributions to a Discourse Theory of Law and Democracy. A few typos result in misspellings. Be alert to them. We Are Always More Than Our Pain: Beyond Basquiat By bell hooks
Review of a 1998 book on bell hook's engaged pedagogy by Adam S. Meyer, Department of English, Ball State University. " What makes hooks' works so rich is her use of the contextual and personal. If Namulundah had adopted hooks' more "anti-ivory tower" approach of sharing personal experience within a specific societal context, then her comments could be read as part of an ongoing discussion of hooks' works. Instead, Namulundah leaves the impression of an academic summarizing and "commending" hooks. Even a perfunctory reading of hooks would lead a reader to conclude that Namulundah writes hooks into the decontextualized, academic space that hooks objects to so strongly in the first place."
