by Brad Kahlhamer
Last week we found peace in the Creation of Adam by Michelangelo. This week I found peace in Brad Kahlhamer's Sub-National Painting. I'm not sure why. I was just so grateful to find the peace, I wanted to share it with you. For more of Brad Kahlhamer's work, see Peace, Where Anger Alone Could Have Been

I'm having trouble assimilating the anthrax scare and all that goes with it. Thursday, this week, I was dressed for school, and assuring my husband that I would be just fine, when we both realized that I was having trouble staying upright. I called school, said I was sorry, and went upstairs to crawl back in the bed and sleep all day. It wasn't the flu. I don't think it was anthrax. So it might have been a stress reaction to all that's happening. It seemed to be in the best interest of all our mental and physical health for me to accept my own advice and acknowledge as "real" whatever we're feeling. I hope that all of you will take as good care of yourselves as I did on Thursday. Please stay well.

Hiroshima in Ruins Aphasiasms by Patrick Lichty
As the consciousness of all that has happened since September 11 seeps slowly through to all of us, across the whole planet, I clutch at memories of what has gone before. jeanne
On a much lighter note, and we do need our lighter notes, follow the daily installments of jeanne's November Novel. jeanne decided to write a novel, in November, to parallel the graduate students' writing of their thesis projects. Now, they don't have to write as much, but jeanne has a typing advantage. By the end of November they'll all have a good first draft product.

Jennifer Glass wrote to share these sites with us: Pumpkin Masters and Lanterns of Liberty I'm not going to carve a pumpkin. But it was worth it just for the animated gif above. Remember that sharing pumpkin carving with family or friends is one way to relax in the company of others. A good cure for stress. Good for the kids. Good for the grownupsThen when you're happy and no longer stressed, check out George Herbert Mead's ideas about the importance of play to the emergence of the self.
