Administrative Officer, Common Ground Indonesia Location: Jakarta Start date: August 2001

Search for Common Ground is a conflict resolution and conflict prevention non-profit, non-governmental organization. It is based in Washington, DC, and works in partnership with the European Centre for Common Ground in Brussels. Together, we work to transform conflict into cooperative action. In the words of ANC leader Andrew Masondo: "Understand the differences; act on the commonalities."

Common Ground Indonesia

After extensive research and strong support from a broad range of stakeholders, Common Ground is starting programs in Indonesia mid-2001. Common Ground Indonesia will carry out programs to enhance conflict transformation in Indonesia using a range of tools developed from the best of Common Ground's experience in other countries, combined with local knowledge and experience. Common Ground Indonesia will work in cooperation with local partners, including non-government organisations, media professionals, artists, religious and community leaders and others. The initial focus of the programs in Indonesia will be a radio soap opera for adults, a comic book for teenage boys, and a capacity-building program working with communities in several regional locations which have experienced violent conflict or where strong potential for violent conflict exists.

Common Ground Indonesia is looking for a committed, energetic and experienced Administrative Officer to work with the Country Director in developing these new programs.

Administrative Officer (1 year contract, with possible extension)

  1. Qualifications and Experience (Preferred):

    • Understanding of and commitment to conflict resolution and conflict transformation through peaceful means
    • Experience as an Administrative Officer in non-government organisations
    • Bachelor degree in administration, accounting, financial management or related field or equivalent experience
    • Strong relationships with civil society groups, government institutions, and other organisations in various areas in Indonesia
    • Experience in information management
    • Understanding of the bureaucratic procedures required for the start-up of NGOs/branches of international NGOs in Indonesia
    • Computer skills including Word, Excel, internet and email
    • English and Indonesian language

  2. Duties
    • Administrative support for Common Ground Indonesia s programs
    • Written correspondence in Indonesian and English
    • Answering enquiries about Common Ground Indonesia s programs
    • Financial management support for Common Ground Indonesia
    • Liaison with other Common Ground offices on administrative matters
    • Liaison with Indonesian Government agencies on NGO registration and visas for international staff
    • Assistance in establishing new office for Common Ground Indonesia
    • Establishing and maintaining information management systems for Common Ground Indonesia
    • Supply and equipment procurement and upkeep
