“The Juvenile Halls”

Mid-Term by Mary L. Conner, Soc 328

As you know, Jeanne, I just started a new job working with incarcerated juveniles.

Well, now I can see for myself some of the problems within the Juvenile Halls. For example thereis a unit at the Hall they call the Unfit Unit. This Unit houses minors who are waiting to be sentenced as adultsfor the crime they have committed in most cases a 187, which stands for murder.

I feel that it is structurally violent that these juveniles are locked up and not allowed any outside time for recreation or socialization time because of the crime they have committed.

In relation to answerability I feel that someone needs to address the needs of the "unfit" minors in the juvenile system, to give them the voice of answerability, to listen, and to hear their needs. They need to have some outside recreation each day to reduce some of the unnecessary conditions in the Halls.
