You will be held accountable for purposes of grading for the readings and exercises listed here. There will be no "testing." That means that you will not have to live in anxious anticipation of what we will ask and how much you will have to know. Instead, we will provide weekly discussion questions, lectures, essays, and concepts we feel that you should know as a result of having taken this course. You will assure us of that learning and receive your grade for the questions and concepts about which you choose to write and talk with us. In addition you will find detailed explanations and examples on our grading policies in the first week's reading.

- Special Note: Monday, April 26th through Wednesday, May 5th, the second mandatory meeting will take place. If you have not signed up for a meeting date/time, please see me ASAP. Be sure to bring your journal and other evidence of learning. Keep in mind that these meetings are very brief. Don't be a NO SHOW!
- Surette. Media, crime, and criminal justice. -- Chapter 7.
- Merlo and Benekos. What's wrong with the criminal justice system: Ideology, Politics and the Media. -- Chapter 6.
- Potter and Kappeler. Constructing crime. -- Epilogue.
- Metaphor and Theory. Read the Blind Men and the Elephant fable. Think about how it relates to class.
