- Preparatory readings for module.
- Discussion questions.
- Discuss the follwing responses given in Mood Across America:
- What role does dominant discourse play in all this?
Consider the definition of dominant discourse. Consider the commercial media ownership. Consider the fast track on which we live and the convenience of "sound bites." Are we following reasoned argument? or simply accepting what we are told, which could ultimately be interpreted as complicity in our own foreign policy.
- "I am hoping it is going to be surgical strikes here and there," said Mr. Weller, 46, who lives in Somerset, Pa., and has a son in the Marines. "This war will not be that difficult to win. There will be casualties, but we will not be seeing planeloads after planeloads of bodies coming back." Consider the use of air strikes against Afghanistan in seeking Osama Bin Laden. Consider the extent to which we have a sense of what any war against Iraq will be like from our military planners.
