Yale Center for British Art
Three Concurrent Exhibits, on Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, and Henry Moore.
Good lead page with pictures, small. Articles of criticism on each exhibit.
But relatively little for you to see. Too bad.
And these are amongst the best of British artists.
This is a well-endowed university. It should consider the needs of local schools.

The Bear Den
Great site. Picture of each species of bear in natural habitat.
Bear Den Photo Gallery takes a while to load, but has
wonderful nature photos to which you are invited to add, if you have
a bear photo. Intuitive linking, so that you don't get lost.
Good place to take kids who want to study bears. A NY Times
review of the site quoted Don Middleton, who runs the site, as
saying bears are "majestic pinnacle predators who should be left alone
for the most part, only studied from a distance and also
as harbiners or sentinels of the sustainability of our last remaining
wilderness areas."
Added Mid-January 1999
Video Clips of Alaskan Wildlife
You'll need Real Audio for this one. Video cameras were placed
on Gull Island in Kachemak Bay. The wildlife grew used to them, and these

There's a delightful set of photographs from the opening day of the museum

Well worth the wait for the page to download. Wait for the whole page.

Royal Academy, London
Nary a picture on the site! Three photographs of people snapped
at receptions or classes in the galleries. This is
where I saw the most beautiful Goya I've ever seen, gentle pastels!
It traveled to Chicago and then on here to L.A. Hard to believe
that the Royal Academy would offer a Web site with no paintings to see.
Well, considering the revolts of past artists against the academies,
maybe it isn't so surprising.
