Dear Jeanne Curran, I randomly came across your website at www.csudh.edu/dearhabermas/projcj01.htm concerning photography as sociological method and it immediately piqued my curiosity. As a former doctorate student in sociology at McGill University, I have recently made the jump to Communications for the wider theoretical and methodological possibilities it could offer my dissertation, one of them being the use of visual material. My dissertation, still in its infancy, will eventually incorporate photography as the methodology to examine issues in criminal justice. While my background in criminology is extensive, my training in photographic theory or methodology is lacking. Could you recommend any books which discuss the role of the researcher actively taking photographs to compile and use as a "data set" (so to speak)? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Dave Guimond
