"Rinse the Turkey? Not So Fast

Rinse the turkey?
Never again

Spread salmonella?
or campylobacter?
all over the kitchen?
Not a good idea

Say the Federal Government Guidelines.

A safety net.
Thank goodness.
To warn us what not to do.

Make the turkey safe.
Don't give it a bath.
Despite what dominant discourse says.

I'm sorry, Mom.
I know you used to scrub it
in soap and water,
in and out
and all around.

But they don't trust
this new generation
To do much more than swish the
salmonella and campylobacter
All over the counter.

Can't have that, you know
So cook it dirty
In all the glory of the bacteria
it comes with.

My dog would love it.
He never liked a bath.

Happy Dirty Turkey, everyone.
