"I watch him sit there/alone and scared . . ."

I watch him sit there
Alone and scared
Knowing his Daddy
Is out there some where

It's been but months
Yet seems like years
Since Daddy has been here
To take away his fears

The "Bad Guy" broke in - late one night
Shattering our lives - it's taken all my might
How do I tell him
He's only five, you see
It was Daddy, sweet Daddy
That brought out this fright

As an Agent of the State,
To protect was Daddy's job
In theory, this was good
But with the turn of a knob
He abused his power and threw it away
Now he's gone, each and every day

What do I tell you
My innocent dear
As you stare out the window
Face covered in tears

I love you so much
And hurt you I won't dare
Your precious mind deserves
Much more than despair

The truth of the matter
Someday you will know
The real reasons behind
Why Daddy had to go

No matter when you realize
The truth of it all
The feelings you possess
Will be the judgment call

In my arms
For now you remain
Knowing nothing
Will ever be the same

I hope you know
I have no regrets
Because with all of my love
I did my best.

XOXO Trisha
