My project will be on the reading of "Answerability; Not Despair." I have been coming in to see and
speaking to Pat during this course.
I have taken an interest in this topic because of my son's learning patterns. He was having some difficulties with
reading and comprehending. I have been working with his teachers at Bellflower High School in this
matter. Your class last year and this year in 'Answerability' AND The Naked Space has helped me to ask questions
and get answers that will help my son for the rest of his life.
Do you remember last year he was having problems with his medical supplies for diabetes? The courses helped me and my son to get result in both Medical assistance, and now, this year, in Educational assistance.
Jackie, that's wonderful. So now you'll tell everyone precisely what worked so they can make the system work for them, too, yes? Remember Giddens says that's what a sociologist does: help us understand the system better, so it can work better for us. jeanne
In the reading "Answerability; Not Despair" you spoke of what Answerability is and what it means. What is our responsibility and perspective, and how can we use it in our situations? I applied that to my 'obligation' to my child. I have a responsibility to my child to insure that he receives the help that he needs to succeed once he leaves high school and starts out into his adult life. There are many programs in education, offered by the government, that can help with learning impairments . There are programs in high school that can prepare you for college. Then there are programs in college that can prepare you for life. Jeanne, all these programs are funded by the state. Your classes taught me to ask questions continuously until I was satisfied that I had received all the information that I needed.Jeanne, I would like to show in my art work the programs that are out there to help in education and funding for college students with learning disabilities. I would have never known about these programs had my child not been in need of assistance. My title will be "WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANSWERABILITY IN EDUCATIONAL SPECIAL NEEDS" I chose this title for those with special needs to understand. "
