Pass? or Prepared?Rudiger Appel's Figurine and Link to his site. Cheating and Structural Violence

In what way can "cheating" be viewed as something other than a moral deficiency?

B. Cheating cannot be a moral deficiency if "everyone is doing it."
Sorry! B is not the best choice. Try Again!

This answer is inadequate because it fails to take into account the moral responsibility that each individual owes to the community. The human is a social animal. We live and love and play and work in groups. Cheating is only resorted to when the competency being measured is less than adequate to meet the measurement standards. That might not matter if no one depended on that competency. But we all do! To cheat at measuring competency is to fail to meet the responsibility that we as individuals have to the social groups to which we belong.

If you thought this was the right answer, you might want to reconsider what we have discussed on structural violence. To evade the moral responsibility by pointing to the system's structural violence might make you feel better. But it will not resove the underlying structural conflict that, for some reason that cheating allowed you to evade, the structure is harming you. You need to address that harm up front and directly if it is to be resolved. Cheating may have worked this time, but the adversarial system will find ways to thwart that. Unless you resolve the structural harm, the problem will recur.
