Ha Aretz article brought to my attention by Marlene Whittaker: "Ministry plans program for [Israeli Arab] schools to debate Oct. riots of the 200 Intifada." By Relly Sa'ar. October 8, 2002. Backup. On Wednesday, October 9, 2002, Marlene Whittaker wrote:
"HI Jeanne, thanks for all your imput today. Just reviewed the Palestine Monitor and the HaAretz. A very special aritcle in the HaAretz, I think you would be interested in reading. An "Illocutionary" approach, how wonderful to see. Like you said, there is sooooooo much reading to do in all of these articles, it is sometimes hard to see them all. Just thought I would bring this to your attention, as it seems to deal with what we speak of so often in class. Shalom, Marlene. Thanks for alerting me to the article, Marlene. It is indeed an uplifting one. Educators all over the world are beginning to recognize that public discourse and legitimate governance depend upon the prerequisite of treating each of us with dignity and respect. Addressing the pain of conflicts in which we are caught by political and social circumstances is one way of starting out on a path that we hope will one day lead us to legitimate governance.
