This essay is based on the New York Times article by Miles Unger: Sargent's Mistake (Or Maybe Not), Sunday, March 23, 2003, Arts Section, at p. AR 35.

Harvard University's Strauss Center fo Conservation This is a very detailed site on the mural, the placement of its components, and many details. The history of the mural and its reception on this site gives a very different impression from that in Miles Unger's article. Compare them. Take the trouble to go through the site carefully. Details are presented by clicking on the two diamonds on the lower right side. They are definitely worth the time. jeanne
