It's All Interdependent

This painting represents the turmoil I feel as I consider teaching this course this Fall. Criminal law frightens me. Both its violence, and ourarrogant assumptions that we know what we're doing when we try to curb that violence. Usually the law is on the good side. But we've seen examples in the last eight months or so when there don't seem to be any "good" sides.

The buildings in my painting are incorrectly placed. Sorry. When I put this on canvas I'll fix it. But even that seems to fit into the turmoil. Should the city, the corporations, urban life be all mixed up with prisons and death and . . . Should the "suits" be pointing the finger at the "criminals?" And who is it who gets to decide who's a criminal? As I threw together this icon for our class, I thought of all these things.

And notice. Is the silly thing grounded properly? What shall I do about that when I put it on canvas? Twice now, it seemed to me it was upside down until I could get my eyes to focus properly. Or am I just tired? There are a number of things I'd like to work on in the painting. It's on the site. Take into Paint or some other program and see how you would do it. Share your results with us. jeanne
