Interpretations: Graphs

On Black Homicide:

Black homicide has been studied because for the longest time, we have focussed in the U.S, on Black/White issues. That does not by any means indicate that these problems are limited to these racial groups, in the U.S. or elsewhere.

This gragh shows the difference in Homicide rates between white men and black men. The age ranges from birth to 85+. The center column represents the ages of the subjects shown in 5 yr. interims. The independent variable is race, while the dependent variable is the Homicide rates of each race. I would classify this data as interval data because it is arranged in order but not in high-low type. Black Homicide rates, according to the graph, are higher than white Homicide rates in every category. Especialy in the under 1 category and between the ages 15-50.

One thing that confused me was that the graph shows that no Black Men die past the age of 85. According to the graph: black men do not live to that age so they do not die or what?

Thank you, Juan Carlos. Once again, you give me good material to work with.
