This essay is based on Slavery in Africa The article is up for your review. The essay will have to come in July. The link was sent to us in response to Shared commentsOn Saturday, June 9, 2001, William Falzett wrote:
The people who made the referenced comments are scary stupid. Maybe you could apprise them of the facts! http://www.africana.com/Articles/tt_145.htmOn June 9, 2001, jeanne responded:
Thanks for the link. And I'll do my best to apprise all of us of the facts. But I admit to some confusion. There are several issues mixed up in this comment. One, Angela did not understand the quote as one by Derrick Bell. Two, she did not understand that Bell was referring to the social construction of identity and critical race theory. Three, the history of slavery in Africa is important to the structural context in which slavery arose and the baggage it carries with it today.I hope you weren't referring to Derrick Bell's quote and my reference to Ernest Gaines' Three Men as scary stupid. But if you were, I'll try to answer that in July. Sorry, but the site is dormant for June.
We hope to hear from you soon. love and peace, jeanne

"If any or all of you were pointing to slavery in America as an example of how humans or for that matter chimpanzees behave, ok, but if you were suggesting this as a peculiarly white phenomenon, I believe it is a racist statement."On Monday, June 11, 2001, jeanne responded:
And I agree with you on that. Our emphasis on the site is one of postcolonialism and alterity, and that has much more to do with domination, intimidation, and oppression than with race or color. But it's good to clarify this point. Again, thanks. love and peace, jeanne
