BOOK REVIEW GUIDELINES
Dear Colleague,
Thank you for agreeing to conduct a book review for the Social Science Computer Review. The information that follows is to assist you when preparing the review.
Reviews of a single book may be limited to 5 to 6 double spaced pages. Book review essays can run from 10 to 15 double spaced pages.
n general, book reviews will be edited lightly, primarily for style, grammar and clarity but not for substance.
Authors should use the format below to provide basic information about the book. It is suggested that the following be addressed in all reviews. How and where these items are covered is, of course, up to the reviewer.
- Purpose of the book.
- Central theme(s)
- Methodology (if a book is based on empirical research).
- The bookıs intended audience, its potential relevance to social scientists, and how useful the book may be to these persons.
- Principal argument(s) or conclusions presented in the book.
- The bookıs main strengths and weaknesses.
- Clarity of writing.
- The reviewerıs summary, conclusions, and critique.
(Reviewers should not consider themselves limited to these items).
The final sentence of the review should be in parentheses and should identify the reviewer in terms of name and affiliation, e.g. (Reviewed by Donald F. Norris, University of Maryland).
The review should be sent to the address above. Please feel free to contact me if there is a need for additional information.
