Articulation Beyond the Administrative Level

We are continuously amazed at the extent to which we address the "Other" through formal administrative challenges, and often neglect the interpersonal relationships we know to be of significance in understanding society. One astounding example is the field of education itself.

California, it turns out, has a K-16, that includes the CSU and UC. I learned that by reading the New York Times on Saturday, April 7, 2001. I didn't know it, and yet I am a Professor with a Ph.D. in Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills. I'm sure the information has trickled down to various parts of our system, but wouldn't it be nice if we found a way to get the word out to all our teachers, and to let more than the official executive officers of our institutions of learning play?

Our Dear Habermas students have been working for years at finding ways to include high school students and younger students in our studies and practice of social justice. The site has a "Kids'Page" for sharing with younger family members and neighbors. Yet we discovered this California resource by going through the Education Trust, which we found through the New York Times' article.

We have now begun a search for the local K-16 councils in California to see if we can exchange information with them. This essay will record our progress over time. Meanwhile we offer you the Education Trust site and the California Education Round Table K-16.
