Darin Maki's Art Work in Theory

We really enjoy Darin's art work because it makes you think. At first we were unaware of the couple in the flower. This has proved that sometimes you must look beyond, and also that the naked eye sees what it wants to see. We could say a lot about this picture when we think about theory and sociology. In general, we considered how this could be a fragment of one's sociological imagination, which is the ability to see the relationship between individual experiences and society. We also thought about how people's social contexts are different so we might not have seen everything that Darin meant for us to see. We also felt that we should look at things from all angles and to not be so closed-minded. This picture can lead to many topics, you could also talk about deception and assumptions.

Good comments, Valencia and Laniesha. Even though it may not seem as "scholarly" or as "impressive" as acquiring new facts, the kind of exploratory thinking you were doing with Darin's drawing will provide a solid foundation for using the concepts we have been studying.

I liked your description of Darin's drawing as "a fragment of one's sociological imagination, which is the ability to see the relationship between individual experiences and society."

HI JEANNE, MY NAME IS DARIN MAKI FROM YOUR TTH THEORY CLASS..I DREW THIS PICTURE OF A ROSE IN YOUR CLASS TWO WEEKS AGO...THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE KISSING IN THIS PICTURE BUT THE ILLUSION IS A ROSE. NOW HOW THAT PERTAINS TO THEORY IS......THERE REALLY IS NO RIGHT ANSWER SOMETIMES, JUST AS YOU SEE A ROSE, YOU MAY ONLY SEE TWO PEOPLE KISSING. WHICH ONE IS THE CORRECT ANSWER?? ITS YOUR JUDGEMENT THAT COUNTS AND HOW YOU PERCEIVE INFORMATION....THAT IS ALL.

WRITE BACK WHEN YOU CAN..DARIN

Darin, that's a very effective way of saying that the multiplicity of competing theories and political ideologies means that it's hard to tell which one is correct. "It's your judgment that counts and how you perceive information." Good conclusion. And nice analogy in your drawing.
