Starting my thesis:Music as an agent of culture has influence similar to that of Gramsci's concept of counter-hegemity. No other social construct is more efficient in producing its own culture, complete with dress codes, norms, beliefs, behaviors and even social theoretical paradigms that often move against the dominant discourse of the culture at hand. This phenomenon can and should be studied sociologically, paying particular attention to music as political resistance and as a vehicle of community cohesion. Okay - I'm working on delimiting my topic now.

Good. You turned it into sociology already. That's a good idea. Notice that, Gail. Notice how I was trying to nudge you towards that by asking what you wanted to accomplish? And it's a start. That counts, says the author of a never-ending novel. And, of course, we see Gramsci on the horizon as a theorist.
