Subject: hello sorry about the delay

Hello jeane

Happy New Year, I hope all is well. I apologize for not communicating frequently when I was in Jamaica for the spring semester, However due to the extreme underdevelopment my access to email was limited. I was living on a campus and the access to television radio, Internet, electricity was very limited, and the only way I was able to contact home was a collect call to my parents' house. I truly apologize for not communicating with you. However the experience was wonderful, and I introduced several methods that I learned in your classes to the students that I was teaching. It was awesome to see students taking notes and remembering things that I mentioned in a class session. Students ranged from ages 18-46, and it was amazing to see the levels of education. All of them came from very disadvantaged background, and they were very excited and eager to learn anything they possibly could. (in Jamaica after a child completes primary education the family is required to pay for public education ) many times families cant afford it, so most kids are only educated through what we consider the sixth grade. It was truly a mind-opening experience, especially being in another country when the plane attacks occurred at the WTC in New York it was Horrible. Most of the students felt sympathy for Afghans and not the US they related more because Afghan is a third world country like Jamaica. This made it difficult for me to teach because the only knowledge they had about US politics was what they heard by word of mouth and the little of television that they would see.
