On the Ellsworth Correctional Center site visit

Thank you for allowing the class to attend this site visit. I am very shocked at how well behaved and well spoken the three women were. This will be a great creative measure for me to just analyze what Dr Latessa said put it all together. It was a great experience. Thanks.

    jill -- you're very welcome!

... I also wanted to mention that i really enjoyed the tour of ellsworth and i thought the women that told their stories helped to make the experience very realistic. Thanks for the opportunity

sarah --- you're very welcome. try to incorporate your observations into this week's discussion questions.

I found the site visit to Ellowitz on Thursday very interesting. I had never been to a prison before, but I didn't expect it to look like it did. I would like to use it as a creative measure for this class...in researching women in prison. . .

marissa -- It was called "Ellsworth." Yes, you can definitely research women in prison for a creative measure.

    On the documentary, "hablas ingles?"

I feel the only real way people who may seem stuck in their language ghetto to acheive upward mobility is to learn english, If they don't learn, or jsut don't care, they will stay where they are.

paul -- is it really a "language ghetto?" is it a matter of not caring or are there other reasons why?

    On Sammy Rangel's lecture

I thought sammy was a very good speaker and had many interesting points of view. To me it just reinforces that the crim justice system isn't the greatest thing that this country has to offer, yet there are some criminals that do benefit from it. it is just wether you want to. also, our country does focus on the negative aspects of things too much. you will never get anything accomplished by thinking that way. there need to me more people out there that believe that they can make a difference and in a positive way.

nicole -- i just wish we had more time to ask him some questions.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed Sammy's guest lecture on Friday. His story was very interesting, and I really liked how enthusiastic he was about speaking to us. It really makes me wonder how people could have ignored his situation like they did.

marissa -- good. thanks for the feedback.
