    On the RYOC site visit

I attended RYOC today as a creative measure for Law and Social Change. I really enjoyed the visit. It was nice to see so many workers enthusiatic about restorative justice. This site visit realted to all the books I read by Spencer Johnsin because all of his books discuss working to better yourself and your life. Which is what many of the workers try and teach the inmates to do at RYOC. The staff at RYOC was very diverse. They all seemed to work together and communicate well and that goes along with what the peacemaking theory says communicate in order to understand each other.

katie -- i'm glad that you enjoyed today's site visit. any other theories from the arrigo apply here?

i just wanted to say that the field trip was very interesting and its good to know how much activites they are doing to help themselves and all the education programs they have.

really enjoyed the ryoc visit. didnt know people were that old there, thought it was a younger group. wished we couldve talked to some offenders though!!

julia --- which class is this for? they were pretty short-handed with the resources fair going on in the gym so it would have been difficult talking to the inmates. sometimes we have, usually in the program room where we met the educational director, teacher, chaplain, etc.

    On postmodernism

I do not agree with the ideas of post modern thinkers. They say that everyone's veiw point has an equal degree of truth and that there are no absolute's. This is wrong and is a self defeating arguement in it's self, there are absolute truths and some people have to simply accept that they are wrong.

paul -- can you provide an example to illustrate your point?

On reactions to "Bowling for Columbine"

The movie Blowing for Columbine was very interesting and I would like to see the rest. I am going to have to rent it. There are so many interesting facts that I did not know. The one fact that stood out is the one about France having about 300 deaths by guns to the US 11,127. That is a huge difference.

frank -- we just saw scenes #12 through 23, i think. the middle parts. the entire documentary is worth seeing.
