This essay is based on an article in the NY Times by Bruce Weber on the dramatization of racial and creation issues: On a Florida Campus, Theater Turns Daring, The Arts Section, p. B 1, February 23, 2004. It offers a good example of how visual and aural media affect our beliefs and the development and change of those beliefs.

The director of this play at Florida State University, put on as part of its theater department activities, was Edwin Sherin, "the origninal director on the television series 'Law and Order.' " There were professional actors; but with "student stagehands and staff." Here is a kind of melding of community, professional, and academic structures bringing real issues before local communities.

Think about it. How would our school react? How would our community react? How would you react? Please e-mail me jeannecurran@habermas.org brief responses (cc. them to Patricia Acone at patriciaacone@hotmail.com) so we can include them in our discussion.

More discussion up soon. jeanne
