Thank you for sharing this with us, Erika. It certainly adds a dimension to my portrait, doesn't it? The message here is clearly that not all Muslims, Sikhs, Middle Easterners are Osama bin Laden, or even very much like Osama bin Laden. It was my intention to illustrate that when I altered my portrait of the Muslim prisoner as victim.

But my alteration of the one original led some of us to speculate on the extent to which one person can contain a kind of schizophrenic split. Could both those portraits be of the same person? Same Person - Different Person by Mitsuyo Minakata. Interesting thought. We are not transparent in our complexities. How much we need to learn about who we are, without even reaching the issue of who the Other is!
